Summer Vacation is Here!

Hey everyone I wanted to introduce myself as your new Brownie Scout Leader. My name is Jessica Alewine and I am Lexi’s mom. At this time our second troop leader will be my husband Travis, he is currently in the application process. Also this week we have a meeting with the Director of Girl Scouts for the Central Coast to switch everything over and once that is official I will be posting a couple summer activities. 

I wanted to take on this position so that our Troop continued to stay together, however some of you may have heard that our family also has plans to move in the future and that is true. We will be here through the summer and I was hoping that would provide enough time to find a permanent solution before our family does decide to depart. So please continue the consideration of leading this troop in the future, until then we will have some summer fun!

Troop End of Year News

We had our Bridge to Brownies Roller skating party last Saturday (which was awesome!). There were several girls who were not able to make it. For those who attend Tularcitos, please see Beth McKee to get your patches and badges. For those at JSS, please contact Julie Rebboah to schedule a time to pick up your patches. Congrats to the girls for working hard to complete Daisies!!!!

Troop 30620 will most likely continue in Carmel Valley at the activity hut. Jessica Alewine, Lexi’s mom, has stepped up to take over the troop and lead Brownies. Please think about a way that you, as parents, can contribute to the Brownie troop. The more that parents volunteer to help, the better your daughter’s Girl Scout experience will be.

Lastly, there is an opportunity to attend Girl Scout Day Camp at Toro Park this summer. Please don’t wait to sign up as spaces are already limited. Girl Scout Day Camp Link

Daisy Scouts Cancelled on Monday, April 29th

Please make arrangements to pick up your child after school on Monday, April 29th. Daisy Scouts is cancelled due to Nuala (Beth McKee’s daughter) breaking her leg. Please read and complete Chapter 6 in the Daisy Journey Book: Between Earth and Sky.

We will see you for our Bridging to Brownies Celebration on Saturday, May 4th from 2:30-4:30 pm. The party will be held at Water City Roller Hockey Skate Rink, 2800 Second Ave., Marina, CA 93933. Siblings are welcome. You are welcome to bring your own skates, or skates will be provided. Please wear your Daisy vests!

P.S. Thank you kindly for the lovely handmade cards from the girls and the gift card. You were all so very thoughtful and we appreciate it!

Optional Spring Events for Daisies

There are a few events taking place this spring, which your daughter is invited to participate in.

1. April 13-Good Old Days Parade, Pacific Grove, 10am

2. April 20-2nd Annual Mother Daughter High Tea: $20 per couple/$7 per additional Girl Scout with pre-payment (see attached order form), or $25 per couple/$10 per additional Girl Scout at the door.

2-4pm at the Portola Plaza Hotel & Spa, DeAnza Ballroom III, Two Portola Plaza, Monterey, CA 93940
Dress is Semi-formal. Please wear a dress, gloves, and hat while enjoying tea with your Girl Scout Sisters. Please bring tea bags to share.

REMINDER: All cookie money must be turned into your Girl Scout leaders by next Monday, March 25th!

Spring Calendar

Please mark these dates on your calendar.  These are the meetings that are scheduled this spring for our troop.  Please note that we are ending in May as Ms. McKee will be moving.

  4. March 25: Between Earth and Sky Journey Book-Maine and the Many Ways Life Can Be
  5. April 1:  Meet at Earthbound Farms.  Earth Day tour and activity and the Farm:  City Farm/City Food.  We will need parents to help drive students from Tularcitos to Earthbound.  Please let us know if you can help so that this trip is possible for all Daisies.  Between Earth and Sky Journey Book-Sunny’s Summer and the Road to Dairyland.  Please remember to bring Journey Books!
  6. April 8:  No Scouts
  7. April 15:  Between Earth and Sky Journey Book-A Salty Lake and the Smell of Pine

There will, of course, be opportunity for girls to attend Girl Scout Day Camp this summer at Toro Park.  If there are any parents interested in assuming the leadership (or co-leadership) for Fall 2013, please let Julie and Beth know.  We would be happy to answer questions and help you get off to a good start.  We would love for the troop to remain intact so that all girls have the opportunity to continue with Girl Scouts.  Please thoughtfully consider!

Cookie Sales Wrap-Up and Other Items to Remember on Monday

Cookies sales end Monday for our troop. Please bring in completed order forms on Monday! All orders must be entered into the system by Tuesday night by our Cookie Manager. If we don’t get your order form, we cannot place your orders.

If you have not yet paid second semester dues, please remember to bring in your check Monday. Please make your check payable for $25 to Troop 30620.

For those who forgot last meeting, please bring your item for donation to the Monterey County Food Bank on Monday! This is the last opportunity to send in your donation before I head to the food bank. This donation counts toward one of our financial literacy leaves.

We are beginning a new journey book this week. Girls will only need to wear vests since we will be distributing the journey books we have on hand. See you on Monday!

Cookie Basics

Here’s a reminder about cookie sale safety!

1. Show you’re a Girl Scout-Wear your uniform!
2. Always sell with an adult.
3. Safe guard the money. Avoid walking around with large amounts of money. Give it to an adult for safekeeping, or give it to your leader for deposit.
4. Never enter a home or vehicle when making sales or delivering cookies.
5. Sell only during daylight hours.
6. Protect your privacy. Never give out your name, address, email, or phone number. Only give out troop information.
7. Use crosswalks, sidewalks, and follow safe pedestrian practices.

Cookie Information
* Cookie sales end on Monday, January 28th. Please hand in order forms at this meeting.
* Cookies are $4 per box (no tax).
* Payments can be made by cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Troop 30620. Checks must have a driver’s license number, phone number, and the Girl Scout’s initials.
* Please collect payment upfront for people who are donating boxes to Troops for Troops. Please collect payment at the time of delivery for those purchasing cookies for themselves.

It’s Cookie Sale Time! And a few other items…

Girl Scout cookie sales officially begin on Saturday, January 12th at 9am and end on Monday, January 28th. We will have a brief parent meeting following our troop meeting on Monday, January 14th, from approximately 4:30-5:00 pm. During the meeting, we will explain cookie sales and hand out order forms.

Please bring a check for $25 for troop dues on Monday, January 12th. Checks can be made payable to Troop 30620.

We are initiating a “Responsibility Patch”. Girls who remember to bring their Girl Scout book and wear their vests every week will earn their patch at the Bridge to Brownies celebration. We are trying to enhance their Girl Scout experience, encourage responsibility, and help them stay focused by having their book to follow along. Please encourage your daughter to come prepared on Mondays!

*We are using the Blue Daisy Scout binder for the next two weeks.

Please remember to send one canned or boxed item on Monday! We are donating food to the Monterey County Food Bank, while earning one of our financial literacy leaves.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Daisy Scouts! We had our first meeting today. We worked on the “Money Counts” badge. We are now finished with the blue Daisy Scout binder! This semester we will earn two Journey patches as well as a Cookie Sales badge.

Now for a few items of Troop business:

1. The troop will be purchasing two Daisy Journey books as well as additional badges for the girls. We had some leftover troop funds to put towards these items. However, that will leave our troop account almost empty! Second semester dues will be at a modest $25 to cover the cost of snacks and meeting activities. We would appreciate receiving dues checks next Monday, January 14th.Please make checks payable to Troop 30620.

2. For the completion of the “Money Counts” badge, the girls need to participate in helping others. Please bring at least one canned or boxed item to the meeting next week to donate to the Monterey County Food Bank. The girls are only required to bring one item, but if you would like to donate more I’m sure the Food Bank would be appreciative.

3. Cookie sales begin around the end of January. Chad and Anna Lundt have volunteered to to be in charge of cookie funds. THANK YOU!!!! Funds from cookie sales go to the troop to be used as the girls decide.

4. Each troop is required to have a representative at a monthly Girl Scout Service Unit meeting. It is the second Monday of every month and is held in Monterey. We need a volunteer! Troop leaders are unable to attend this in addition to planning and running weekly meetings. Please let us know if you can help out in this way…it would be much appreciated!
